“If ego is a factor then it’s probably not a good idea.”
Ego manifests in a multitude of ways. Sometimes it’s anger, sometimes it’s hubris, and almost all the time it’s ignorance. Whatever form it comes in, ego always undermines intelligence. The best defense against ego is empathy. Because empathy assuages anger, which clouds judgement. It harnesses hubris, which can subject you to blind spots. Empathy also counters ignorance so that you may be aware of the actual facts. If you can imagine yourself in another’s position then you are likely to make a more sound decision.
