A lack of money could be the cause of misery but an excess of money is not the cure of misery.

Misery has many forms—emotional, physical, and financial. It also has many causes, be it circumstance, condition, or judgment. The latter of the three is generally impacted by one of the prior two. While conditions like clinical depression or extreme poverty can severely limit our judgment, in most cases judgment—despite circumstance or condition—remains the ultimate determining factor as it relates to one’s agony or joy, despair or happiness, suffering or bliss, woe or pleasure. It’s not so much what is happening around us or inside of us as it is what we decide to do about it—if anything at all, and to the degree our capacity allows.
